Description


Statistics is, nowadays, crucial for the development of the society as regards a large variety of problems, such as the struggle against epidemic diseases, the implementation of new treatment drugs, the study of environmental risk, quality control in industry, studies in social sciences, the development of economic models and the dissemination of information in social communication. The application of statistics in each one of these areas requires, nowadays, a vigorous training, that enables professionals to have an important role in these areas.
Taking into account the existing areas of social needs where statistics can be applied, this course intends to prepare professionals to integrate into the labour market as experts in several areas. These can be: large associations, professional consultancies, banks and insurance companies, organization of social communication, health institutions, government entities and local government, universities and big industrial companies.

Access to higher education


The education and training received in this Masters will provide their students with skills in various methods and statistical techniques, motivated by various applications. This set of skills will allow students to follow into the laber market or to proceed into a research career for a PhD.

Careers


Aware of the social needs within the area of statistics, the course aims to train professionals to integrate the labor market as senior technicians in a broad fields. These could be large companies, such as consultancies, banks and insurance companies, media companies, health institutions, government entities and municipalities, universities and large industrial companies.

Entry requirements


The following candidates may be admitted:
a) Those with a first degree course in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Computation Sciences, Physics, or with other degrees of related scientific nature or with an equivalent degree.
b) Those with an academic curriculum (scientific or professional) recognized by the Scientific Council of the School of Sciences.
