First Degree (Licenciatura) in Mathematics (Bologna)
The Licenciatura (First Degree) in Mathematics is a six semester course (180 ECTS credits). It is a wide range programme, providing basic knowledge in the major areas of mathematics, from theory to applications. Strong emphasis will be put on the use of symbolic, numerical, graphical and statistical computational software, using the University’s extensive computing facilities.
This programme aims to provide students with the mathematical skills and techniques needed in a variety of careers in business and commerce as well as in research, industry and education.
Graduates will be able to model and solve scientific and technological problems and will have developed skills of logical thinking and analysis very useful in their professional future. In addition, the graduates in Mathematics will be well prepared to pursue their studies in a wide range of 2nd Cycles in the areas of Sciences, Economics, Management or Engineering.
Official length: 3 years/6 semester/40 weeks of full time study per year/180 ECTS credits.

Programme requirements: The Licenciatura in Mathematics is a wide range programme, providing basic knowledge in the major areas of mathematics, from theory to applications. Strong emphasis will be put on the use of symbolic, numerical, graphical and statistical computational software, using the University’s extensive computing facilities. The programme is structured according to the principles and recommendations of the Bologna Declaration, allowing the mobility of students in the European High Education System.
Access to further study: The Licenciatura in Mathematics degree allows access to postgraduate studies in a wide choice of 2nd cycles in the areas of Science, Economics, Management and Engineering, including the master programmes in Mathematics, Systems Statistics, Mathematics and Computation and Mathematical Economics and Finance offered by the University of Minho.
